2024-2025

We are pleased to announce this year's recipients for our Sharon and Chip Picot Memorial Scholarship and our John R Taylor Memorial Scholarship. This year we had an outstanding response of applicants from our Suffolk schools, with a total of $6,550 in award funds for students in grades 6-12 the 2024-2025 school year. We are pleased to recognize these students, and offer them the best opportunity for them to explore their passion for the arts! Each recipient will have until May 12, 2025 to submit their receipts for reimbursement or invoices from institutions to pay from their awarded amount. 

Sharon and Chip Picot Memorial Student Scholarship Recipients

Ashiya Bland- Senior at Kings Fork High School, will use her funds for dance competitions and choreography fees. 

Brooke Christy- Sophomore at Nansemond Suffolk Academy, will use her funds for intensive summer dance camp. 

Alora Coleman- A 7th grade Homeschool student who will use her funds for ballet classes, and workshops. 

Lauren Eichman- Senior at Nansemond River High School, will use her funds for art supplies, and classes. 

Shreya Kuchibhatla- A 7th grader at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School, will use her funds for piano and violin lessons. 

Emiri Lawrence- A 7th grade Homeschool student, will use their funds for art supplies and private lessons. 

Luke Moore- Junior at Lakeland High School, will use his funds for voice and piano lessons. 

Haylee F. Neprud- Sophomore at Lakeland High School, will use her funds for a violin and accessories for her violin. 

LeAnn Purkey- Senior at Nansemond River High School, will use her funds for private voice lessons. 

Nevaeh Raysor- Senior at Nansemond River High School, will use her funds for band camp and lessons. 

Solara Schuler- An 8th Grader at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School, will use her funds for dance competitions and lessons. 

Irie S.A. Snow- A 6th grader at John Yeates Middle School, will use her funds for art supplies, and summer art camps.

2023-2024

Congratulations to each of the Suffolk Art League 2023-2024 scholarship recipients. Students in grades 6-12, whether public, private, or home school were eligible for the scholarship in the arts. 

The Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Memorial Scholarship awards are available to youth in the following categories including visual, performing, musical, theatrical, literary, and more. This year's award amount is up to $5,410.00. 

Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Scholarship Recipients:
  • Ashiya Bland, a junior at Kings Fork High School, will use her award funds for GSA trips/dance tuition.  
 
  • Zahirah Chavis, a seventh grader at John Yeates Middle School, will use her award funds for dance/music lessons. 
 
  • Brooke Christy, a sophomore at Nansemond Suffolk Academy, will use her award funds for summer dance intensive program.  
 
  • Kaed Hartman, a senior at Nansemond River High School, will use his award funds for GSA fees for the theater program. 
 
  • Arianna Kerr, a senior at Kings Fork High School, will use her award funds for a writing residency.
 
  • Mariah Marks, a sophomore at Kings Fork High School, will use her award funds for computer, and writing programs.  
 
  • Ashley Barrios Marroquin, a senior at Kings Fork School, will use her award funds for computer, and animation programs, and art supplies.  
 
  • Abigail Mugaisi, a seventh grader at Nansemond Suffolk Academy, will use her award funds for piano lessons.

  • Laura Nartey-Tokoli, a freshman at Kings Fork High School, will use her award funds for art camps and piano lessons. 
 
  • Leann Purkey, a junior at Nansemond River High School, will use her award funds for voice lessons. 
 
  • Savannah Lea Mae Stephens, a senior at Nansemond River High School, will use her award funds for GSA fees, and theater attire. 
  • Ezekiel Swindell, a freshman at Nansemond River High School, will use his award funds for GSA fees, and animation software. 

The John R. Taylor Memorial Scholarship award is available to a youth pursuing the visual arts. This year's award amount is up to $540.00. 

John R. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Recipient: 
  • Olesia Jones, a senior at Nansemond River High School, will use her award funds for an art tablet, and animation programs. 
  • Nyleigha Johnson, a sixth grader at Nansemond Suffolk Academy, will use her award funds for art supplies. 
  • Marissa Manfra, a seventh grader at Forest Glenn Middle School, will use her award funds for art classes, and supplies.
