Charcoal Figure Drawing Workshop (Member)
2-Day workshop with Artist Krista Bennett March 25 and April 1
10-1pm
Model will be clothed in Leotard or bathing suit.
Class is suitable for ages 13+
This workshop, Charcoal Figure Drawing, will focus on visually articulating the gesture and posture of the human figure. Instruction will include the difference between contour drawing, gesture drawing, and mass drawing as well as how to combine those methods in a single piece of work. With the help of a live model, rapid posing (30 seconds or less) and long posing (up to 20 minutes) will be utilized: the former as an exercise in making multiple, quick, expressive drawings and the latter as an opportunity to more fully render and refine a single drawing. The students will be taught and encouraged to work both additively and subtractively, and they will be refreshed on how to measure from a distance in order to hone their senses of proportion and perspective. Several critiques will also be conducted throughout the workshop.
Preferably, those interested in signing up for this workshop will have already been introduced to the formal elements of art (line, shape, form, value, space, texture, color), and they will also have a basic understanding of the difference between 2D and 3D depiction.
Each day will be three hours long, making the workshop six hours long in total.
