Upcoming Teaching Opportunities
Visiting Artist Program at Suffolk Public SchoolsThe Suffolk Art League seeks two enthusiastic artists for an upcoming school-based residency program. Each artist will work with the Suffolk Art League Education Coordinator to develop a workshop that can be presented in either all Suffolk elementary or all Suffolk middle schools. This workshop will give students the opportunity to work with new media and a new instructor to deepen and enliven the arts curriculum.
Interested artists should submit: a brief letter of intent (max. 500 words), a workshop proposal indicating intended grade level, CV or resume, and 5-10 images of your work. Please email information to Abby Reed at [email protected] no later than February 28, 2025 for consideration. This is a paid opportunity and the Suffolk Art League will provide all supplies needed for successful workshop completion. Prospective artists should have or be working towards a degree in fine art, art education or equivalent experience. Please contact Abby Reed at [email protected] for any questions. |
Lead a free workshop with us at North Suffolk Library! In partnership with Suffolk Public Libraries, we provide a monthly free workshop at the North Suffolk Library, on the first Wednesday, unless specified, from 6pm to 7:30pm. Our workshops are free to the public, and each one is uniquely designed to focus on enhancing arts education within our community. Some workshops will be geared for the whole family, while others are more age-specific.
If you are interested in leading a workshop or craft, please contact Abby Reed at [email protected] with your proposal, intended age group, and materials list. |
Workshop or Class Proposals
The Suffolk Art League is always looking for instructors to share their passion for the arts with our members and students! Have a class you would like to teach? Complete the Google Form linked below or send an email to [email protected] with the following information:
- Name of class, type of medium taught- for example, "Acrylic Painting for Beginners" or "Embroidery Basics"
- Length of class and prospective date- everything from two hours to a two-day weekend workshop is fine! Multi-class series can be offered during daytime or evening hours. For example, "Tuesday mornings from 11 am - 1 pm, May-June" or "Saturday July 9th, 10 am -4 pm."
- Age range you are comfortable teaching, and maximum number of students for workshop.
- Artist bio, Instagram, website or images and examples of work to use for promo.
- Supplies needed including tools and consumables, and what you will be able to provide vs. what SAL will need to source
The Suffolk Art League provides opportunities to access the arts for the community of Suffolk and beyond, and is also committed to supporting the artist community in the Hampton Roads region. We strive to ensure our artists are compensated adequately for their time, and pay a baseline of $25/hr for instruction. If you prefer a per-student rate, please indicate that in the email. Please note, while SAL does occasionally offer grant supported free or low-cost programming, most programs need to meet a minimum registration to run. Therefore, your help promoting the class within your network is always appreciated to ensure we can fill the class! The SAL Education Coordinator is also available to help develop lesson plans for emerging artists who are looking to start teaching but require some professional development to get started. Please indicate if that will be required. Please don't hesitate to email with questions.
